Last week I had the pleasure of working with Chief Schafer of the Hastings Police Department to photograph the Police Week Open House even they hosted. They invited members of the community to come down and enjoy grilled hot dogs, … Continue reading
Stevie knew before her wedding day that although her new husband already had 2 children that they had full time, she wanted some of her own. I was thrilled the day I got the call announcing that she was pregnant and would need maternity photos done! Soon after that she found out it would be a little girl, they were so excited!! It was a brisk Saturday afternoon, cool and windy was what the forecast read that morning. When I arrived at Phalen Park, the sun was nicely shining as the willow branches gently swayed in the breeze. The water was textured with ripples and the geese were lounging in the sunlight as the otters and turtles were casually swimming by. I was excited to get out and take some portraits of the local volunteer police reserves out of Hastings Minnesota. My dad and brother in law are both active on the force so I a very familiar with what they do. In fact, my father has been a police reserve since I was a small child. I was thrilled to be asked to take their portraits.
The police reserve force functions as assistants to the police force while out on patrol. They provide security detail for local events like parades and festivals. They head out to assist neighboring towns with their festivals and events. The reserve force is made up of volunteers, people willing to donate their time and effort into helping keep our communities safe. All of the reserve units I’ve met in my life are proud of the work they do and they are happy to work with the police officers in our communities.
I was nervous going in to this session. The forecast didn’t look promising as rain was looming overhead. It wasn’t too cold though which was nice, but what would I do with rain? I was able to use the reserve squad car outdoors which was ideal, except that meant being out in the rain!
Lucky for me, most of the reserves were willing to brave the light drizzle for a few quick moments to get some photos near the vehicle that makes them all feel proud.
Here’s a few of my favorites from the session!!!
